Color Symbolism and Meaning

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a love for colors and the symbolism and meaning they each convey. Bright hues of yellow and orange bring out feelings of warmth and happiness, while colors of blue and silver might make someone feel chilly or melancholy. Colors can bring someone back to their childhood home or be the inspiration for a future place to live. Colors are present in our daily lives; circling around us bringing emotions, feelings, and symbolism in everything we do.  Color symbolism and meaning differs from culture to culture and the interpretation of color has changed throughout time. Red for example was once known for violence and reminded people of blood. As times and culture has changed, red is now a color of love and has comforting properties. Drawing people in and making them “stay” longer. Casinos and lounges use red in their decor to make customers feel “comfortable” resulting in staying longer and “forgetting time.” So let’s delve right in and look at some popu...

Mercury Retrograde and how we can focus our energy!

So what is this Mercury Retrograde we speak of? The term retrograde refers to when a planet looks to be moving in reverse. With Mercury, this happens three to four times a year. This planetary event, as well as others can have a great effect on your life.  Mercury Retrograde can impact forms of communication and our thought process. It can slow down relationships, partnerships, and friendships. It can delay transportation, as well as have great impact on technology. This can halt creativity, new projects, or business transactions. Things basically can go wonky more easily than usual.  Some people feel off during Mercury Retrograde. This is normal as our energy is being “messed” with. One must keeps in mind that Mercury is not trying to mess with us directly or on purpose; this feeling we have is a direct response to the slowing down motion of the planet. Everything is made up of energy, so of course our energy will feel this shift. Look at retrogrades as a time to revis...

The Magic of April and Spring!

Everyone who lives in a cold climate knows that feeling of Spring. The first warm day of the season when the sun is finally shining and the birds are chirping above. Flowers are starting to grow and buds are starting to bloom on the trees. Little sprouts are starting to pop up under the snow that is still melting. Spring is here and so is the magic of it. As the warm weather and sun approaches, summer seeds are planted and gardens are laid out. This is a great time to plant directly into the ground and connect with Mother Nature. Feel the earth on your fingertips and embrace her energy.  * side note: Just make sure the frost is over if you live in a cold climate so sprouts won't freeze.  We welcome in new growth and life. A great time to ground oneself in nature. Walk barefoot in the grass and feel the cool mud on your toes. This has a direct calming effect which takes stress away and promotes calming relaxation. Nourish your body and soul with relaxing meditation....

Celebrating Mabon and The Autumn Equinox

Mabon is a harvest festival celebrated during the Autumn Equinox (Fall) and is a time for decorating, feasting, and connecting with nature. It’s a time to prepare for the upcoming winter with harvesting the last of the summer crops. It’s a time that we give thanks for what the earth has provided us.  Mabon is a time where the day and night are balanced. This reminds us of the balance between light and dark energies. Embrace this duality. With balance comes harmony.  Mabon is a time for us to recharge ourselves spiritually. Ground yourself and give thanks for what we have, but also remember to finish up goals. We are preparing for the thinning of the veil. When we become closer to the spiritual world.  The Autumn Equinox occurs around March 21st for the Southern Hemisphere & September 21st- 23rd for the Northern Hemisphere. Celebrate by throwing a feast with family and give thanks for what we have. Mabon Activities  Cook a seasonal meal, bake bread, or bake...

In Remembrance of the Salem Witch Trials

On March 1, we remember those lives lost as a result of the Salem Witch Trials.  March 1, 1692 is a day that we should not forget. A day that allowed for hysteria, greed, and hate coupled with fear and silence; to end in the deaths of innocent people.  The Salem Witch Trials started in a small settlement of Salem, Massachusetts. Two young girls fell into a trance and had seizures in which doctors could not explain. This naturally led to the accusations of witchcraft and witches in their village. Other children started having such "fits" and with the help from adults, the children pointed out and accused local residents of witchcraft. During the next few months, the children accused over 150 women and men of witchcraft and worshiping satan.  The first to be tried was Bridget Bishop of Salem. She was found guilty and hanged on June 10. Thirteen more woman and four men were hanged and one man, Giles Corey, was crushed to his death...
